Helping students learn and learn how to grow

My teaching experience is broad across subjects and age levels. Learning and teaching excite me and I like to think that attitude rubs off on my students. It can be fun to learn, and even those subjects a student does not find enjoyable, can prove satisfying. I've taught middle school and high school, as well as at Bellevue College, Renton technical College, and North Seattle Community College. I enjoy taking what I know about a subject, weighing what my student's learning style is and then tailoring a lesson so that student best understands the material. As a regular classroom teacher, I felt hampered due to class size. I was never satisfied connecting with just a few students. Every student was important to me. I realized that the only way for me to really reach students was by reducing the teacher-student ratio. As a tutor, I found that teaching smaller groups of students or one-on-one was for me. Using this style, I feel strongly that students learn more, particularly at home. Students are much more comfortable at home which creates an excellent environment for learning. Learning is a joyful experience and students have a better chance of tapping into their potential.
