Because of my elementary background, it is safe to say I am a very patient person and I use that skill in my ability. I allow the children to create their own paths and when there are roadblocks we work together to find a solution. I am not in the habit of giving students the answers. My formal experience as a tutor is minimal. However I have been called upon by several friends and acquaintances to assist in academic assignments with which they had been struggling. It has been my experience (as well as that of friends in academia) that a great number of young people do not understand the nature of plagiarism, i.e., when to cite and why it is necessary to do so. Another common problem is with spelling and usage (e.g., their, there, they're), spell-check not withstanding. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe the best way to learn is peer-to-peer learning. As an auto-didact I have the study skills necessary to regurgitate information as taught by the current institutional models. This is an uncreative and highly unnatural way to learn. There's a reason no major discovery was made in a classroom -- true innovation, discovery and learning is an organic process.
I'm a student at Augustana College whose academic record has ranged from public school to home schooling to community college and and even private education. I've worked as a tutor for over 2 years at Black Hawk College, at the same time obtaining an Associates Degree.
