I have tutored both general and organic chemistry for both private high schools and college level. All students I have tutored have significantly brought their grades up. I have taught labs and given many chemistry presentations. I have extensive background in both general and organic chemistry and i'm comfortable tutoring either one.
I like to ask questions and give suggestions that lead the student to the answer. I never outright give the answer, I do not think that is going to help the student in the long run.

During undergraduate school I was a tutor of organic chemistry, bacteriology, molecular biology and immunology courses. I was a member of the biological honors society at the University of Texas at Austin. I found that teaching the material to others helped me to learn it more effectively. A Little Bit About Me...

I am an experienced classroom teacher and have been involved in education since I was 18 years old. I have worked supervising general chemistry teaching labs as well as an organic chemistry TA. I followed this experience by gaining my general education certification through the STEM program at UNM. This involved a year of teaching as an intern at a local middle school. Following this I have spent the last two years teaching Integrated Science, Chemistry and Physics all at the high school level. I have also been occupying myself with obtaining Master's Degrees in Special and General Education.
I believe that each student should be respected as an individual that is capable of intellectual endeavors. I utilize humor and have a relaxed attitude but I also expect hard work. I adapt delivery style to suit the learning needs of the student.

A Little Bit About Me...

I want my students to become independent readers and writers, but also inquirers. I do this through modeling what I expect them to learn, provide time for guided practice, reteach and model more if necessary, then provide opportunities for independent practice, while giving specifc feed back. There is no 'One size fits all" in education and as a teacher, I will feel like I have been a true educator if I constantly strive to learn more deeply about how students learn and take that knowledge and apply it, but first you have to truly know your students. The background to most common disorders in adults is complex involving multiple genes, thus I used advanced fuzzy latent class analysis to identify high and low risk sets of gene variants and to define the level of risk for individuals. In teaching, setting expectations is important... expectations of what the goal is; what they will learn, and then adapting it to the abilities of that individual. Again, as I said, I think listening is key, and empathizing with the individual. Of course you have to set standards, such as homework expected, and tests (as a teacher).
