I am a licensed Social worker with tutoring experience in and out of college. I have the most experience in tutoring Algebra and other math. I have a student now that I am helping with AP English who has dyslexia. I enjoy watching her grammar skills increase and her overall understanding of the concepts develop. In December 2009, I graduated cum laude from the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh with a BBA in Economics. While in school, I worked as a Supplemental Instructor for an introduction to business course, formulating and providing lessons to a group of undergraduate students. I also tutored individuals in both business and math. Additionally, I have several years of experience as a private music instructor, teaching lesson for guitar and music theory.
I believe that in order for students to obtain knowledge, they must develop some level of interest in the subject. I have done much sales and customer service work, as well as teaching. I think listening is key, recognizing the humanity in each person, and relating to it while communicating. In teaching, setting expectations is important... expectations of what the goal is; what they will learn, and then adapting it to the abilities of that individual. Again, as I said, I think listening is key, and empathizing with the individual. Of course you have to set standards, such as homework expected, and tests (as a teacher).
I earned a BS in Business (CIS) with a cumulative 3.4 GPA and membership in two National Honor Societies. Courses included Chemistry, many Social Studies classes, and calculus-based Chem Physics.
