My teaching philosophy has developed based, in part, on my experiences as an undergraduate Biology student. I routinely incorporate current scientific topics in my lectures. For example, I discuss the scientific and ethical dilemmas of stem cell research when I lecture about the development of different types of blood cells. I sometimes have students study figures and graphs and analyze what is happening in them. Essay questions are a great way to encourage students to enhance communication skills. Then I find out specifically where they are having difficulties and concentrate on that area. If they still are having difficulties in that area, I will move on to the next topic so that they don't get frustrated.
