Teaching confidence through kindness and success

I taught high school social studies for 26 years at Tates Creek High School, primarily as a psychology teacher. I also taught a year at Tates Creek Middle School in the areas of Citizenship and American History. Since retiring, I spent five years as a substitute teacher in the Fayette County system, teaching everything in the areas of math, science, social studies, English and also in a variety of elective studies- from creative writing to geometry and history to earth science. This past year, I volunteered as an all-purpose weekly tutor for a fifth-grader at Athens-Chilesburg Elementary. I enjoy teaching and helping young people grow and gain personal confidence.
I believe in learning about each student, helping him or her become comfortable with the subject matter and then guiding the student to reasonable learning proficiencies.

A Little Bit About Me...

I've worked with many high schoolers and even college students taking French. I've helped them build vocabulary and exercise speaking with a native French speaker. I've helped them mimic the sounds that I'm making and give them tactics and memorizing skills to remembering things that they're having a tough time with. In Social Studies I create rhymes to remember locations for Geography. I put the history lessons into a literal short story and give them tools to remember cetain events. I answer any questions they may have in dept and broken down so that they may better understand a certain situation.

Experienced Tutor with Expertise in Math and Social Science

My teaching style varies for each student, I try to tailor the work to how the student learns.
I have been tutoring students of all ages since I was in high school. I began by tutoring my own peers in math and social studies. I would also tutor children from 1st grade on up in all subjects.
