Jenni G - Soulsbyville, CA 95372 (5.5 mi) - Law Tutor - $61.50/hr.
In a one-on-one situation, I prefer dialogue. Assuming the student does the assigned work before the session, I find that a informal, relaxed conversation on the subject matter at hand encourages the student to further explore the addressed topic. If I am familiar with the student's extra-curricular interests, I attempt to relate the subject matter to such interests. I find that questioning the student in a conversational manner produces the best results, as opposed to the more stringent (i.e. boring) task of fill-in-the-blank worksheets. For writing assignments, I ask the student to write a paragraph which we then go over line-by-line so the student has immediate feedback on any errors. Having homeschooled my children (eldest is attending a top 20 public university)and volunteering extensively in the school community, I have become familiar with a wide variety of learning styles. M

At the University of California-Berkeley, I have pursued my academic interests and personal convictions through a variety of study, work and volunteer experiences. I have earned two bachelor's degrees in English Literature and Legal Studies and received honor's in Legal Studies after completion of a ninety page research paper. Outside of the classroom, I have had the enjoyable and rewarding experience of mentoring two teen girls for the past two years. In addition, I also work in a law office as a legal and financial assistant, furthering my writing, communication and mathematical skills. I greatly enjoy teaching and feel accomplished helping someone achieve his or her goals. Particularly, I believe that mastering new concepts can be challenging but also a rewarding experience. I feel it is essential to approach te

Michael R - Turlock, CA 95382 (35.6 mi) - Law Tutor - $39.50/hr.
Education and helping others get the most out of their scholastic experience has always been very important to me. My tutoring background began at Merced Community College, where I taught college students in English, Spanish, business law, mathematics, and chemistry. Reviewing essays and helping others improve their writing skills is a passion of mine. I continued my education at Fresno State University and there taught Spanish and mathematics while earning my undergraduate degree in accounting. I also instructed a lab class on Internet web site design and development. I've been in the finance industry for over 11 years as an accountant, so I can help with most business-related subjects, too. I've honed my coaching style to develop many of the tools needed to reach students in every age group because people never stop learning, so I am prepared to assist others wherever they find th

Lenna B - Salida, CA 95368 (37.5 mi) - Law Tutor - $39.00/hr.
My teaching style is one where I combine patience, efficiency, technology, variety as well as traditional methods. I believe that you need to keep learning fun and if you mix up different methods then it keeps the aspect of learning from getting boring. If a student gets bored and their mind begins to wander, they will have a much harder time retaining the information you are working so hard to teach.
A great example of this would be for teaching children math. The internet has some great resources in helping students to practice their math skills by playing games. This is a great way to add a little fun and also teach important math skills as well. I have a passion for teaching others and thoroughly enjoy the satisfaction of seeing others succeed.
In addition to my FT position at Stanislaus University, I am currently teaching adult learners how to prepare for competing in

Michael B - patterson, CA 95363 (47 mi) - Law Tutor - $45.00/hr.
I think you have to teach a steady pace and make sure that the little things are understood first. Students also like their learning to be interesting, so student involvement is a must in my mind. An instructor should have student involvement in the lessons and not speak the whole time. I have a BS in business administration and I am currently attending an online MBA program. I currently work as an admissions advisor at a private college so I have experience mentoring and advising students. Although I do not have teaching experience, I do have the knowledge and communication skills to help students succeed. Although marketing is my forte, I did well in statistics and English related courses. I am also skilled essays and research papers. My goal is to become a college professor in the business field. This type of position would be a good fit for me and will help me achieve my goals.
