I like to give a diagnostic test at the first meeting to assess the client's familiarity with the topic, then, customize lessons to fit her or his needs. I aim to build a strong foundation, then, increase difficulty of concepts as client's comfort level with the topic increases. I use materials that are challenging, but not intimidating. First it was at the campus learning center at Westminster College, then I went on to pursue a graduate degree in chemistry at Penn State University where I found that I like to teach more than I wanted to be a PhD Chemist, I was a teaching assistant for both Physical Chemistry Lab and General Chemistry for non-majors.
