A Little Bit About Me...

While attending Bates College, I was motivated academically to achieve the best education possible. I sought out teachers who inspired me to work harder and enjoyed participating in chapel services, community service activities and participating in competitive sporting events. During school vacations, I explored jobs that followed my academic strengths. To date, I have earned two degrees, a BA in English from Bates College and a M.Ed. in Curriculum Development from Lesley University. I am certified to teach 6-12 in the state of Florida and 7-12 in Maine, and learned the art of creative nonfiction writing applying this skill later to community news reporting. Knowing students as people is extremely important when teaching as it allows for a teacher to choose methods that work best for the individual student (learning styles and multiple intelligences come in to play here). Students should feel both safe and comfortable in their learning environment so that they may reap the most benefits from education. I believe that all students maintain the right to learn in an environment that is safe as well as conducive to learning. All students are interested in something and it is imperative that we, as teachers, find that something and mold it so that it fits to the education needs of the students. In this manner, all students can find all subjects interesting and engaging.
