My comments on tutoring Government : I have a Bachelors of Science Degree in Paralegal and have tutored and taught American Government.

My style is to build confidence in the student by teaching positive thought processes, study skills, learning techniques, and a strong work ethic. I assist students to believe in themselves and provide them with tools that give them a perspective.....that they can succeed with well directed effort. I recognize certain learning styles and work with the particular students learning style, e.g. such as a visual learner by providing visual aids.
I have worked at Utah Valley University Academic Tutoring Lab, tutoring Science and developmental math from June 2009 to August 2014. I review course material with the students who I teach. I ask questions to get students to think about the lessons and concepts. I will sometimes emphasize important information to remember and keep in mind. I will sometimes follow questions up with explanations of the curriculum and key concepts and other questions.
I served in various teaching and leadership positions in my Church. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I served as a Ward Missionary where my duties included serving and teaching with the missionaries, visiting and serving members of the Ward and others in the community, and occasionally teaching "Gospel Principles." I also served as the Elders Quorum Secretary where I had the responsibility of reporting home teaching for the Elders Quorum and also had opportunities to teach in Elders Quorum every Sunday. I previously served as the Ward M ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that it is important to have fun while learning. A good example would be my experience with science. I used to hate science, but my senior year of high school I had a great teacher in my Advanced Biology class. He made the class fun and entertaining. I believe that is the best way to teach someone.
I do not have a ton of experience. I am a college student currently attending Utah Vally University. I love to work with people. I am currently studying Behavioral Science. I am a quick learner myself and I have a lot of patience. I currently volunteer at a Children's Justice Center. And I work at Survey Sampling International. I love to teach people of all ages. I know I don't have a ton of experience, but I hope that someone will give me a chance to prove myself. I really would love to tutor. I maintained high grades through out high school and took college level courses duri ... read more

More About This Tutor...

While I have taught in various ways and capacities throughout my life, I have always enjoyed most teaching one-on-one. As an undergraduate Spanish minor I tutored fellow undergraduates learning Spanish. As a graduate student I worked as a political science teaching assistant and taught my own classes in American and ethnic literature and culture. As an assistant professor of Ethnic and Mexican American Studies at St. Cloud State University and the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities I taught various classes on American culture, history, and literature. I always enjoyed the individual interaction with students and believe some of my best teaching was achieved working with students individually.
First and foremost I believe in teaching/tutoring from where the student is when I meet her or him. This is because if I don't appreciate and understand what the student knows, I can't real ... read more

I enjoy working with children and helping them discover their individual learning style. I believe all children can learn but that we each have our individual strengths. I beleive that discovering ties to students pre-existing knowledge is the key to getting their intrest in a subject. Students learn best when they feel safe and understood. I work hard to understand my student's needs and help them discover their strengths.
I have taught and tutored K-12 subjects English, Basic Math, History, and Science for three years as an Educational Specialist helping home school students. For the past three years I have taught in Utah Elementary schools in the primary grades. My favorite job of all time was teaching ESL in a middle school. I love education and helping students learn to read, write and love math.

A Little Bit About Me...

Starting from high school I have always been passionate about young children learning. As a young child I was fortunate enough to have people in my life care about my education and help me succeed. That is what I wish to do. I have approximately three years in tutoring English/Reading and Math to all grades of elementary school and middle school. I have succeeded in helping many children in succeeding and achieving their dreams and goals for school.
I believe that all children learn differently. I do not have a specific way of teaching because I get to know my students and help them learn depending on their abilities and learning style. I do however believe in each student learning to do things on their own—I am their tutor, not someone to do their homework for them. I believe in constantly practicing until the concepts are grasped. Practice makes perfect!

My experience at Brigham Young University instilled in me a desire to pursue lifelong learning and to assist others in their own quest for knowledge. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in English Education and took advanced courses in Math and Spanish (I taught English in El Salvador). During my time at BYU, I fine-tuned my writing skills and also helped other students do the same, especially as I worked as an editor of a university journal. I have had the chance to present scholarly papers at professional conferences. I have taught ACT preparation classes relating to all areas of the test (math, science, English, and reading comprehension). I have also been a private English, history, and science tutor.
I strive to help your child achieve academic and personal success. In my student teaching, I saw first-hand the need for students and teachers to have a relationship ... read more

More About This Tutor...

As a Mormon/LDS missionary I attended the LDS Mission Training Center and then spent 2 years in the Tokyo area. I studied and spoke Japanese daily. I taught a message in Japanese daily. Also I spoke to congregations in Japanese regularly. Following that time, 2004-2006, I studied at BYU (acclaimed for its language success). Here I have earned 20 credit hours of Japanese with an A- average. I am not fluent but I am very good.
I believe teaching is a noble profession. As a missionary I was a teacher for two years. There was a specified message about Jesus Christ and the incredible potential of mankind. Also, I taught English there weekly to natives (including a class for children only -- I made all curriculum up as we went). Now I work with university professors as a Student Consultant on Teaching (SCOT) for the Center for Teaching & Learning at BYU. Friends may describe ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I prefer sitting at the student's elbow, with the assigned work in between us, focusing on it together. I talk about "it" rather than "you" to avoid making the student self-conscious. Writing can always be improved, and each student has areas of strength and weakness. I try to pick one area that needs the most attention, and focus on it. When there is significant improvement, I move on to the next area of weakness. Pointing out all of a student's mistakes and weaknesses at once drains morale, and that is counterproductive. Working on one area at a time keeps the student from being overwhelmed. I like to have the student read out loud to me, so that we can both see what needs improvement. I also point out what was done correctly to boost confidence. Goals are important, as well as establishing a time frame for achieving them.

I am a creative thinker who enjoys helping people learn new things. I graduated top of my class in Political Science and am currently pursing a degree in the field of counseling and therapy. A Little Bit About Me...

I know how to help students study and learn. I can teach ways to get important information from notes and textbooks to help students complete assignments and increase test scores. I am very patient and if a student doesn't understand a concept the way I am presenting it, I will try other ways to present it until the student understands. I also desire to increase a student's love of learning. Test scores and grades are important, but becoming interested, even passionate about learning leads to more long-term success and lifelong, self-directed learning.
I homeschooled my 3 children, during which time I developed, planned and taught full curricula over the course of 15 years, each year tailoring the material to the levels and needs of each child. I have taught most subjects from Kindergarten through high school level including math and science of many levels. I am also excellent at q ... read more
