Chess is one of my top subjects! I can teach students anywhere from beginner up to those starting serious tournament play.

I prefer to work with students one on one, getting a sense of their skill level, and then engaging with them where they are at to help them work towards their own personal goals.
I have been playing chess for close to seven years, many of those at the tournament level. I was a natural when I started, and have only grown in my concepts of the logic and theory of the game. I am also a published author, and can easily teach any student to understand writing in new ways so that they can improve not only the accuracy but the style of their writing.

Additionally, I trained 2 Accounting supplementals. Each year now for 5 years in the summer months, I take battlefield walks with the National Park Rangers at Gettysburg. Also, I have a personal interest since 2 of my relatives served in the Civil War. In addition, I have been a member of the harrisburg civil war roundtable for 4 years. My personal interest also includes the American Revolutionary War.

Because of my experience in teaching my own children, I have discovered that no child is too young to learn. Often people will not consider an infant or toddler a "functioning human being" until the child can speak. This is so inaccurate! I taught one of my daughters to read at age four. My teaching style is to engage the student on a personal level through cheerful conversation and sharing of interests, then to assess learning styles, strengths, and challenges.
