A Little Bit About Me...

I do not know what my teaching style is. I have instructed large groups and had one on one learning sessions as well. I have dominated the communication time and I have been a listener. I have out right provided examples and I have merely provided encouragement for a student to continue their thought process. I believe everyone learns differently and therefore it is important to be flexible. The main goal, after all, is not to see discover how great I am as a tutor; rather it is to see how much a student can gain and retain knowledge from a learning session.

As a typically destitute college student, I chose to supplement my income with the knowledge I knew best. This covered non-biological sciences and mathematics, as well as conversational Spanish and English literary composition up to the sophomore college level, Over the last five years, though the three years of my undergraduate education were the most busy, both peers and high school students took advantage of my services.
Post-pubescent persons have a great capacity to learn abstract material; all that is necessary to open that potential is to motivate them. I do not specialize in that motivation. I do, however, excel at taking a puzzled student and explaining the difficult material in a way that makes sense to him or her. Sometimes it is not a matter of the student being incapable of learning the material, but needing it to be presented to them in different ways to find the method most suitable for them. I believe the greatest issue for students is the material being explained too quickly in classes. However, I am very patient and easy going. I graduated from Georgetown University in '05 with a BA in Chinese. I won the Chinese Award, spent a semester at Peking University, and received a 7 on the HSK Chinese Proficiency Test. I grew up speaking Japanese. I took a few courses while at GU, spent a semester at Sophia University, and passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level One. I always did fine in my English courses and can help in that regard too. Up until college I was always a math/science guy, and while my calculus and statistics are rusty, I am confident in my ability to tutor up to and including algebra.
