A Little Bit About Me...

Over the last 4-6 years I've had to teach coworkers the intricacies of engine technology (basic hydrocarbon breakdown and nitrogen depleting systems) to basic geometry and electrical circuits ( from creating concentric bends in pipe to large scale automated systems). I have not taught english to an 11th grader in a public school, but I make it a fact to learn everyday and spread the knowledge to whomever i come into contact with and is willing to learn. I have recently been studying and implementing hydrogen generating systems and the effects of injecting it into internal combustion engines.
I believe teaching is best learned though practical examples (especially math). because I used to say the same thing that I'm sure that kids today are saying. When am i ever going to use this in my daily life? Its important to let them see the applications from knowing calculus based formulas t ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style depends on the person I am working with and the subject matter we are exploring. Everyone learns differently and that needs to be respected and appreciated. My goal is to provide an environment that is comfortable and positive, allowing my client to excel and reach their fullest potential.
My entire background revolves around teaching. I taught in a Preschool while I was working on my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. While there I worked with all ages from Infants to the School Age children. After completing my degree I then went to teach in a public school. The first year I taught and ran the Preschool Program of about 50 children, ages 3 to 5 years. The next four years I taught third grade where our emphasis was on reading comprehension, analytical thinking skills, and writing. After leaving the public school arena I completed my MBA and then mo ... read more

I realize that learning reading and writing skills can be difficult. When I teach young people, I work to push each person patiently but constantly to improve with each lesson. Each person learns a little differently, and I like to learn the student’s strengths and weaknesses and work from there. I support hands-on learning. There is only so much a person can talk about writing. The best way to learn writing is to write. The best way to improve reading comprehension is to read. Reading unlocks vocabulary. And a good vocabulary helps in written and verbal communication. My passion for teaching these skills comes from my belief that they matter and that I’m helping someone with a skill that will help them succeed.
As an editor working with young writers and as a college professor teaching students, I have spent most of my adult life passing on writing, communication and reading ... read more

I am a very patient teacher. If it seems someone is 'just not getting it' I will try a different approach. People learn at different levels, and what works for one does not always work for another; therefore, finding the way for each individual student is the key. I have also found that most people learn a task by 'hands on' learning, not listening to how it should be done. In this situation, giving someone the tools to do the work themselves gives them the confidence to do it, and feel good about conquering the challenge.
As a working professional, I was driven later in life to get a degree that was started right after high school. I initially had 90 course hours towards a Social Work degree, and when I returned changed it to business. I have a BS in Business Management, and I only have one class left to get my Masters(MBA). This has allowed me to have a vast bit of working exp ... read more

While working part time as a law enforcement instructor, I fell in love with teaching. I believe in engaging students in conversation and effectively communicating to them the need to learn and the pride that results in the achievement of learning.
I am a retired law enforcement professional. I returned to college and earned a B.S. in Education in2004. Currently I am enrolled in a graduate program in leadership at Duquesne University and have completed 18 hours of that program. I will graduate with a M.S. in Leadership in December, 2010. I hope to enter the Doctorate of Educational Leadership at the University of Missouri in June, 2011.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love to work with children and help them learn. I want to help each child achieve to the very best of their ability and reach their full potential. I am very patient and considerate of others. I am a firm believer in showing respect to students. I feel if you show the students respect and understanding, it will be shown to me. Children have different learning styles and I will do everything I can to help them learn in the way that is easiest for them. I strongly believe in showing students how something is done and walking through sample work with them and gradually providing less assistance until they are able to do it on their own. I want to do everything I can to help the students I work with in whatever way possible.

Although I have only been teaching in a classroom setting for the last two semesters, I have spent a great deal of time teaching friends and fellow students over the years. I am very patient and able to adapt to the student with whom I am working. I am a firm believer that learning, and learning math especially, is not a spectator sport and that a great deal of practice is required to fully understand most material. I do my best to provide a helping hand with that practice.
Throughout high school and college, I performed at an academic level well above average. As a result, I often found myself helping my fellow students. As part of my graduate assistantship at Missouri State, I work in the math tutoring lab several hours a week, tutoring (primarily) algebra and calculus students. I also teach MTH 102, which is approximately equivalent to high school Algebra II. I also have a great ... read more

For the past several years I have owned a run my own Grant Writing Company. I specialized in the teaching and the mentoring of my clients in the Grant application process. I worked hand-in hand with them in preparing the detailed paperwork. I aided them in so as they were able to shape their business proposal so that it would fit the necessary criteria to recieve various grants. I am an accomplished writer, public speaker and independent business owner.
I first must one hundred percent become knowledgeable and comfortable with the material I will be teaching. I enjoy being able to personalize myself not only with the work but the students as well. I am entirely patient and open to questions and problems and suggestions that need be. I have an open door policy. No question is to small and no problem to big. I am willing to work with complicated schedules.

More About This Tutor...

I have children who are twenty one, seven, six, four, and two, as well as a granddaughter who is three. No two have learned in precisely the same way, and I have had to use multiple approaches to help them learn. I have also coached teams in five sports. I have spent a lifetime teaching kids to do things they never dreamed they could attain. I know that kids can learn anything they wish, and can become anything they wish.
I am a world class scholar, with roughly 1600 different publishing credits in nineteen distinct academic fields. I have taught more than 130 sections of twenty two different courses in seven different academic disciplines at five different colleges and universities. I have graduate degrees from Harvard and Johns Hopkins. I read seventeen languages.
