A Little Bit About Me...

I view teaching as integral to my life, and I am passionate about giving an exceptional education to people. I currently teach academic writing at Tompkins Cortland Community College, and Purchase College. In addition, I have over 15 years experience teaching acting to children, teens and young adults.
My goal is to instill habits and skill sets in my students that change learning from a laborious, anxiety ridden process to a spontaneous and empowering one. We learn most from our mistakes, and so therefore, there is no such thing as failure. A one on one session gives a student the necessary attention, and connection, to a mentor that can make the difference. Grades are earned so the successful completion of an assignment is a real accomplishment. Learning is cumulative; self-mastery will come through time and consistent effort.

As an undergraduate, I spent nearly three years assisting groups of students with how to learn content for the historically difficult courses of College Chemistry I and II. I have my BS in Nuclear Medicine Technology, which permitted me to learn and acquire a great understanding in multiple areas. These areas include biology, anatomy, physiology, chemistry, algebra, statistics, and beginning and intermediate levels of Spanish . A Little Bit About Me...

I like children to learn through exploring. This is not to say that I do not teach, but I plan lessons in a way that allows students to learn at their own pace. I feel like if I can put together a lesson that gives children a motivation to learn, they will learn on a deeper level than if I am merely telling them information. With my middle school math students whom I tutored, this meant that we learned about fractions through art. It was not enough to explain to them how fractions worked, I realized that they needed to experience fractions. We spent the same amount of time as the regular class did on fractions, but my students were able to better explain their work.

I attended several schools to achieve my undergraduate degrees, both of which I worked hard to excel at the University level. Attending graduate school at Binghamton University truly prepared me for academia, requiring many research papers and essays as well as honing my knowledge in psychology, the arts, human development, english, and biology.
