My comments on tutoring Composition : Currently teaching Composition at the college level.

I began my career teaching music to students in grades K-8. I have always loved the Special Needs students and thus chose to pursue my Master's degree in the Special Education field. My first Special Ed. assignment was for ADHD and LD students in 7th grade Math and Language Arts. From there I have progressed to being the Lead teacher in inclusion settings as both the regular education teacher and the special education teacher. I am experienced in interpreting testing results and IEP writing and would willingly serve as an advocate for your chile and advocate. I am currently teaching grammar and composition to college level students.
I believe in meeting a student at whatever level he or she is ready to work. I am friendly and like to develop a personal relationship with my students in order to know how to serve them better. I use technology as appropriate.

I have training in the Balanced Literacy program in which the word study, reading objectives, and writers' workshop are combined in a one and a half hour block of student driven, teacher facilitated activities. These are ultimately shared in a whole group and or one on one setting. When tutoring, I do a very brief mini lesson on the objective and we go immediatley into the task at hand with instant feedback and adaptation between the reader or writer and myself as we progress through the lesson. If the student is hung on vowel digraphs, we stop and examine those and do word work with several examples. My next choices for them to read would have more vowel digraphs. If my student is confused about where to put the punctuation in a quotation, we will do several real world scenerios where he will write statements, questions, and exclaimations correcting as we go along. A Little Bit About Me...

Coming from a family with no prior college education, I made it a point to not only graduate from a four-year university but to work as hard as I could to be the best at what I do. I accomplished what I have set out to do by graduating with a degree at both institutes I attended with a GPA above 3.0. I have tutored my younger brother for several years in the four major subjects.
