Mike's Guitar Studio is based on the belief that the students needs are of the utmost importance. The Studio is committed to meeting those needs. As a result, a high percentage of our business is from repeat customers and referrals. Lessons are catered towards what the student wants to learn. There is no one method that works for each student. Each student has different ways of learning, we recognize this and apply it to our teaching policy. The Lessons should be a fun and positive experience as the student progresses on his or her instrument. The primary instructor/ owner, Mike Benninger, has a B.M. in music performance from Keene State College and a M.M. in music performance from the Yale School of Music. I have been playing music my whole life. I began playing piano at six years old, saxophone at ten, bass guitar at thirteen, and guitar at fourteen. Throughout my high school career I played a variety of rock band gigs on guitar, bass, and keyboards; I also played a variety of jazz gigs on saxophone. Currently I am a music student at William Paterson University, and am graduating this May with a degree in Jazz Saxophone Performance.

My background as a concert pianist and composer (with degrees in such from New York University) has seen me work for numerous private and public schools in New York City, New Jersey, and Macao (at the Macao Conservatory), including holding the position of Composer-in-Residence at the prestigious Stevens Institute in Hoboken, NJ. A former resident of Hoboken, I was also the Assistant Director of the Dieckow School of Music, one of the first and most successful music schools here in Hoboken. Through the Dieckow School, I also managed the Great Music at St. Matthew Trinity concert series from 2005-2008. I prefer to allow the student to attempt to find answers on their own first, and only supply help when a student is clearly struggling to find the answer. I work through each lesson or homework assignment step-by-step with the student, making sure they understand each part before moving on.

Although I have only held my BM in Music Education for a little over a year, I have always sought out opportunities to hone my skills as a teacher.
