I like teaching students by explaining the material in a way I think is easiest to understand. I always emphasize how the material relates to what students already knows and how they can use what they know to solve problems. Often students cannot see how what they are learning can ever be useful in real life situations so I also try to give examples of when they might use what we are covering. I try to analyze not only how they perceive math, but I also look at some of their previous work to deduce what mistakes they are making and (more importantly) if they are making the same mistakes over and over. I also try to boost their confidence, as most people that struggle with math experience either frustration or fear. My goal is not to help the student with their homework; it's to help them understand the concepts being taught in class as well as building their level of confidence.
