Individualized learning/teaching for optimal comprehension

I started tutoring in my teens helping young children with Autism Spectrum Disorders develop English and Math skills as well as speech therapy and public speaking. I tutored my fellow students while attending Carroll Community College in English 101 and 102 as well as Creative Writing. I then moved on to being a one on one with high school students with special needs in the Baltimore area.
I take a hands on material approach to learning/teaching. I feel that young students learn best when they can physically learn, such as through blocks/puzzles/interactive learning devices and other similar approaches. I try to let the student use their hands as much as I can to aid in their learning process. For older students such as my high school students or their college counterparts I use more direct audial teaching and visual teaching styles. Every person learns differently, so I cater my t ... read more

Drawing is one of my top subjects! I was a student with the Art Instruction Schools in 2011, and maintained and completed the course with an A average in 2013. Though I am currently a self-taught student developing my traditional art skills, I am able to teach students in basic cartooning anatomy, and color theory.

When I was learning how to draw, I started out copying drawings of characters that I saw in books and TV and used what I saw to draw my own characters soon after. That was "fine" but I realized over time that it was not enough to simply "see" something drawn a type of way, but that I needed to understand "why" it was drawn that way. I feel as though the best way to teach a student is to first tackle the subject that they enjoy drawing the most, in this case character design, so that they'll be more interested in the lesson. Then break down what makes the figure look that way and how it's done so that they will have the skill and experience to pull original ideas, poses, and designs from their own memory. This will then open the door for more lessons to be taught, if the student chooses :) Since artistic ability cannot be "forced" or rushed, I believe in a fun; laid back teaching me ... read more

My comments on tutoring Drawing : Advanced Placement art, Junior and Senior year, with a 5 on both portfolios. Continued in art clubs while at the University of Michigan, although I was accepted to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, I opted to "go blue!" for a liberal arts education. Art continued to be my life, and as soon as I was hired at Blackboard Inc. in 2003, I taught myself the entire Adobe Creative Suite, and have been a graphic designer for 10 years. As well as multi-media artist, and tutor/instructor.

While I was a Rotary Exchange Student – South Africa | 1999-2000, I volunteered to tutor students of various ages every subject, except Afrikaans, and was very pleased with their progress, and enjoyed it. I excel in the Arts (Creative, and Graphic), English, Statistics, French, Social Studies, Reading/Writing (especially essay) and would be best for college prep (Highschool ages grades 9-12), as well as Creative Arts for all ages. Please see my profile for everything I feel confident to be at expert level of. I am confident I could dramatically improve any student's writing skills as well as their art abilities.
I adjust to the learner and speak their language, establish rapport through mutual respect, and try and make it as fun as possible.

I graduated in 2008 and i have been tutoring for many years. I got my masters degree in tutoring in 2010 and have helped people who have a disability and they ended up getting 3 degrees. I have been to night school and Saturday school to teach me these things. I get personal lessons from a family member that has done way to many classes to learn this stuff.
I ask the kid many questions about what they are learning and I give them advice on how to get better at it. I tell them to go over there notes every night.

A Little Bit About Me...

Hands on teaching style
I am young creative and talented artist perfecting my craft everyday. I started dealing with computers in 2005 when I was in high school studying computer programming. When I graduated I moved to the major of graphic design, when I got to college it showed me that I really had a love for art. Production wise I have completed many projects of promotional and marketing advertisements. Advertising is one of my major strengths also photo touchup/manipulation. I have a gift of being able to get the best out of someone, I was employed at a Homeless shelter in MD and before I moved on I can say 12 males went to further their education from the facility. I also coach high school football and every year 60% of my seniors go to college to chase their dreams and education.

Spreading knowledge across the world

I'm more of a hands on and visual teacher. I prefer to show than to read because many ideas can come from one sentence. I learn more by drawing out or actually seeing what my teacher is trying to convey.
I am a 17 year old female who has so much talent to share with the people around me. I'm apart of a community service club, I play a variety of instruments, and from my experiences I've gained a lot of wisdom. I may not be certified with a piece of paper to show, but who said that in order to spread knowledge you had to have graduated and attended college? All in all I aim to please and I give 100% because 99 1/2 won't do.

After graduating from The Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore, I worked at the Baltimore Museum of Art, creating signs, brochures, and the large banners advertising the current exhibition. Eventually, I began my own business in graphics, developing proficiency in graphics software-creating on the computer. In fact, the computer can be used as a creative tool to plan out artistic concepts. In addition to watercolors, acrylic painting, and pastels, more recently I have expertise in art quilts, polymer clay, faux finishes, murals, jewelry making and papier mache. Two of my projects have been demonstrated on HGTV, and one on a local radio station.
Art is my greatest joy, and the desire to pass it on grows daily. Many never get the opportunity to express themselves artistically; I believe everyone deserves this opportunity. I believe in a firm foundation (the basics) - then pro ... read more

I have implemented individualized reading and writing programs for students ranging from pre-K to adult; gave one-on-one attention to special needs students in phonics, context-based reading, and fact retention; cultivated students’ understanding of grammar/punctuation, sentence/paragraph construction, and general cohesiveness in creative and academic writing; worked one-on-one with high school students on SAT critical reading and writing sections, devoting extra attention to vocabulary expansion.
I am keenly aware of how busy most students are, so my aim is for tutoring to feel like something they get to do and not something they have to do. Teaching revitalizes my own love for learning, a love I hope to impart in a gentle, patient manner. I believe in honoring the variance in learning styles, and I empower my students to engage with material in ways that feel natural to them.

I truly believe in the emphasis on art as an essential learning element for young students. Art helps these students to integrate what they have learned from other subject areas into a visual representation or expression, to think through problems and find a personal solution, path, or method that they discover on their own. It might seem simple, but through art, I would like students to consider new ways of doing things, new ways of saying something, new ways of expressing themselves. Take what you think you know about a subject, person or theme, turn it around, manipulate it, change your perspective, and then embrace the new thing that comes out of that.

I think learing about your student is most important thing first and then teach them the way they learn quick, such as if they are visual learning or practical learner. that's what i do with my students, simply talk to them and ask what they think is the easy way to learn stuff for them and that's how I try to help them.
I believe that if you teach someone you truly expend your own knowledge simpling helping others. I love to teach people of all ages and i had pretty good experience. I used to teach at Anne Arundel Community College for couple of courses such as, accounting, arabic, and math. Then I stopped teaching because I didn't have much time to give to students because of my study. Now I have graduated with my Bachelor degree in Accounting and started teaching again, just to help students.

I value and respect the idea of teaching and imparting education. I feel that consideration and empathy are very important factors in teaching. I also feel that respecting your students opinion and trying understand from his/ her perspective in order to teach them better is a very important aspect I admire and practise.
