Chemistry is one of my top subjects!

Generally I will try to ask questions to see which specific points a student needs assistance with and make sure they understand the material on a fundamental level. I also believe that practice and hands-on experiences teach the most, so there tends to be an emphasis on working through problems step-by-step than lecturing. Ultimately I am flexible, and can change my style and routine to accommodate the students' needs.
While at the University of Tulsa I have tutored in both math and chemistry, so I have experience with those subjects in particular. Though I received a bachelors in Psychology I was also pre-med, so I was required to take several heavy science courses as well. As such I am also proficient in several biological subjects.

I prefer one-on-one conversation in a question-and-answer format (Socratic method). However, sometimes a straightforward explanation is needed. For math tutoring, the best results come from working through problems step-by-step.
I have been teaching at the college level for 6 years, and I have 2 years of earlier experience at the middle school level as well. My BS in Electrical Engineering enables me to tutor effectively in math and science, and my PhD in Philosophy qualifies me for Science, History, and some writing help (I have published in peer-reviewed journals). Teaching is a means to find a student's misconceptions and correct them. I try to do this by engaging the students in conversation, asking them leading questions, or watching them work. Although I am advanced as far as the subject areas I would be tutoring in are concerned, I am still able to present the content to the student in the unique way that they are able to understand it. This is important, since no two students think alike and, in my experience, a majority of students do have trouble with math and math-intensive sciences such as physics.
