Learn with experienced, successful tutor

My style of tutoring is creative flexibility. I assess the student's learning style and try to adapt to that, using different senses (kinetic, aural, oral) to trigger best responses. However, this is layered over a basic multi-part structure suited to the subject. I also like to set up a schedule of what our hour will be like, with some beginning exercises (usually recall from previous session). The rest of the hour would be structured with student input as much as possible. At the end, I like to introduce some free time to talk about the lesson and about any new ideas.
I have a masters degree in Enviornmental Biology and a BA in pre-med sciences. I also have an AA degree in Dietetics. My other hat is a long career in writing, editing, and publishing. A strength on which I have always prided myself is my ability to relate complex concepts with useful analogies and from different angles. I never underestimate a child's ability to learn something, so long as it's in a way in which they understand it. Curriculum development is also important. By that, I mean the creation of illustrations, tables, lists, acronyms, heuristics, and flash cards to aid a student in their thirst to learn. I am patient and fun, and working with children is something that has always animated and invigorated me. In attending the University of Nevada, Reno, I was introduced to and involved with several programs working with youth. I was a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) working with children who were removed from their home for various reasons. (Parents were usually abusive). I also tutored Autistic children in the Early Childhood Autism program at UNR for almost two years. This program has offered me unique training and qualifications for tutoring youth, not just Autistic children. I spent 3 years subsituting in the Sacramento USD system while I went to school for my credentials. I then taught in a pull-out RSP program in 4th and 5th grade ,1/2 time and a high school push-out RSP program the rest of the day. I have also taught 3rd grade.
