I graduated from Sonoma State with a BA in English, Single subject emphasis. I am taking a year off before I go back to get my teaching credential in reading. The majority of my classes were geared towards the teaching of reading and writing and I feel confident in my ability to help students improve in those areas. I also worked in a High School writing center and tutored for the past two semesters. I love being around kids and helping them. Currently I live in Tahoe City, but am more than willing to drive to Reno or other areas as well.

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience in tutoring computers for the last 6 years and facilitating study sessions in college for the last 4 years has refined my skills in directing absorption of knowledge in a direction that is organized and on-task. As an avid and trained grammarian and writer, my strengths are in English. As such, I was a paid tutor for Syntax, Principles of Modern Grammar, Phonology and Sociolinguistics classes over a few semesters. A Little Bit About Me...

I love helping people achieve their dreams and goals and I have high expectations for all children and adults I am teaching. As an educator I encourage my students to believe in themselves and convince them they have the ability to be successful in whatever they want to achieve. One of my students was struggling with C's and D's for grades and he was getting extra help but he was frustrated. Once or twice a week we would chat about it. I think that kids light up life and make it interesting. That's why I love working with them. I love the intellectual stimulation of the older age groups and the academic challenge they present. However, I love working with the younger kids as well, learning their fresh take on life and watching them learn HOW to learn is like watching life happen before your eyes. I think the most important concept for me, as a tutor, to remember, is to allow the student to arrive at the answer themselves.
