I have an unparalleled amount of patience.

My first teaching experience was in high school teaching at after school programs about basic economic principles that may apply to kids. That was my first time understanding that I have potential to assist others in grasping topics. In my college career, I found myself teaching people everything from music to proper uses of tense/grammar. It was there that i learned that you really only learn a small fraction of what you need to help you in life in the classroom. The rest must be learned on your own or with some one-on-one counseling. As a junior and senior finance major, I routinely tutored fellow classmates in several finance and business courses. As a junior I showed many of my classmates how to excel in several areas of business, such as, finance, accounting, human resources, and management. I believe students will rise to the level of expectations set for them. I am a bit of a comedian, and I use humor to allay frustration in learning situations. I believe in setting goals and charting a specific path for reaching them, while being flexible enough to alter the path along the way. Praise and positive reinforcement are powerful tools when teaching challenging material, and I use them frequently.
I received a BA in General Business from WSU, and was honored as a Cum Laude graduate. The courses were varied and included a wide array of math application, from supply and demand curves to interest rate calculations. My classmates gave me the nickname "Webster" because I was frequently asked to edit their papers and to tutor them in several different subjects. I have taught in higher education for the past 22 years. One year was spent teaching at Spokane Community College and for the past 21 years, I have taught at Whitworth University (formerly College). My master's thesis was on computer-based training. My experience includes teaching end users and other trainers (train the trainer). Classroom training subjects have included using software programs, developing online documentation, writing skills, communications training, policies and so on. Past clients have been Blue Cross Blue Shield, U.S. Navy, Chevron and many more. Further, I have mentored co-workers in the past and enjoy one-on-one coaching very much.

Anyone can learn any skill that they are willing to work at. I personally prefer to learn by doing, so that is also how I teach. When a student works through examples, discussing how concepts apply, that application of the concept helps to solidify the knowledge. I am patient when teaching, and I believe that a relaxed environment is best for learning. Communication is the key to both teaching and learning.
I earned a Bachelors degree in accounting, with clusters in Finance and Spanish. I have work experience in auditing, tax and financial analysis.
