A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching comes second nature to me. I believe that all students can learn, but each person requires a different style of instruction in order to fully understand the subject. I provide multiple kinds of instruction while keeping a patient and easy going mentality. It is my goal to help each student not only come to understand the subject, but be able to apply it in real life settings. This type of teaching can make a difference in each of my students' lives.
As a University of Connecticut graduate, I was very driven by my passion for the sciences. I earned a BS in pathobiology with a minor in molecular and cell biology. I was a well rounded student which has afforded me skills in math, psychology, and English. I have worked as a rowing coach for many years and have the patience and drive to help you reach academic goals.

I was more of an instructor than a teacher. I was a day camp counselor at Solway House parent/child resort in Saugerties N.Y. I instructed kids how to swim, dive, play various sports and gave dancing lessons to the guests. As a high school student I tutored 7th and 8th graders in an after school community center. I was one of a few staff at the University of Connecticut to instruct graduates and staff in the use of the various electronic facilites available to them.
I feel children are very self-aware and are very vulnerable to positive and negative feedback. Therefore, no matter how little progress is made, praise them. If no progerss is made or if an issue needs to re-addressed, praise them..."That was great, but let's try it this way!" I understand that children (and adults) have differennt learning styles and try to tailor my approach to the specific needs of the student. The bilingual students I teach have a unique challenge in that the letters of the alphabet represent different sounds in English versus Spanish. I have a great rapport with the children and because they are receptive to my teaching style have been very successful.
