I am a determined, enthusiastic, and highly motivated teacher. I want students to grow academically, socially, and emotionally in an atmosphere that is stimulating and adaptive to their diverse needs. I have focused on instilling in my students a love of learning. I believe it takes more than a single individual to make a difference in the lives of a student. Therefore, I have learned the value of being a team player and the importance of communicating with colleagues, parents, and administrators.

I have three basic ideas that guide me in the classroom. 1) I feel I have a personal obligation be intellectually engaging and informative. I understand my responsibility to provide students with information and ideas such as critical thinking and writing. 2) I encourage a stimulating, safe learning environment to ensure that students are eager and comfortable about their participation. I treat students respectfully, and ask that they treat their peers with the same level of respect. I encourage a forum for ideas and always solicit participation in the classroom. 3) I help students understand how education prepares them for the future. I constantly stress the relevance of the subject matter, by using real world examples.

I enjoy teaching and working with all children. I believe all children can learn, but each in different ways. I am patient, assertive, and considerate. My goal is to provide the best education possible for each child. I am a firm believer in teaching at a slow yet steady pace and in providing a visual approach to learning. I believe all children can meet their potential. A few good educators have made in difference in my educational background and I look to do the same.

More About This Tutor...

My teaching style is focused on student achievement. Many parents complain that their child does poorly on tests. This is often a result of inadequate teaching practices which fail to recognize individual learning differences in students. My goal in teaching is to individualize the learning process for each student, so that the student understands and retains knowledge and is able to explain what they learned. This process increases their test scores and confidence. Students often require that educational materials be modified or accommodated to meet their particular needs. My experience in special education has shown that all students can achieve if knowledge is properly presented and goals well defined.

A Little Bit About Me...

Because I have a passion for learning, I love to share my own knowledge with others. Because of my own children, I understand that every person has their own style of learning and I love to discover that avenue for people to help them to grasp whatever it is they are trying to understand.
As a graduate of Wellesley College, I continaully strived to do achieve a high level of excellence. One of my biggest regrets in life is that I didn't get a teaching certification while I was in college. It is a profession which I would truly love. As the mother of two children, one of schoolage, I realize now that it would have been a great life choice for me. I have helped many people with their skills along the way, and I would love to do it in a tutoring format now.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an Education Director at a Boys & Girls Club, I taught in the non-traditional sense, through after school literature-enhancing programming of various kinds. I instructed K-12 students, and even parents and staff, on many different levels of achievement and ability, so I am very acquainted with diverse populations and accomodating their educational needs through creative tools and approaches.
Since my years as an undergraduate student, one of my passions has always been giving back to the community through tutoring and mentoring. Over the past eleven years, I have tutored countless times, particularly in research paper and essay writing (in various disciplines), literature, and even mathematics. I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Education and seek to continue giving back in this way!
