French, English Comp and Writing

Learning should not have to be boring! I am continually looking for fresh teaching materials and try to inject some fun into my lessons.
I have just begun working as a tutor and have one middle school student whom I am helping with English and Social Studies. Both of my high school aged daughters take French and I regularly help them and one of their classmates with language homework, as well as with history, language arts, and writing. The study of language requires lots of grammar practice. I have gained a better understanding of English grammar as a result of my experience leaning French.

When I teach, I try my best to be open minded, and to give choices to the student, rather than follow a closed-box cookie cutter curriculum. I've found it's important to find a personal way of learning for a specific student. Variety is important, because every child learns a little differently. Some kids learn by listening, others by seeing. Some kids learn only when they're making things. Encouragement and recognition when progress is attained by the student is a great incentive.
I'm currently a student in school who has had a wide range of experience in various different subjects, specifically working best with mathematics, science and language arts in the elementary and middle school level. Tutor for the summer

I am a speech therapist with 11 years and experience. I have worked with students pre-k through 12th grade, primarily pre-k through 5th grade. I have extensive experience working with students on reading comprehension, answering and asking questions, semantics of language (antonyms, synonyms, multiple meanings of words, attributes, categorization), syntax, grammar, phonics and much more! The key to helping a student to retain information is to make certain that student possesses all the prior knowledge needed to support the new information. For example, it is very difficult to teach a student the concept of the passive verb voice if that student does not understand the difference between a verb and other parts of speech.
