I received my Bachelor's degree in 1989 and worked as an assistant engineer in Binghamton NY until I started my masters program at SUNY Cortland. I have held Physics, Earth science, Chemistry and Biology appointments in the years that followed in a variety of School districts throughout the state. I encourage students to see the wonder and "mystery" (there really isn't any mystery) of Math, regardless of the level, in the real world. To that aid, I try to present real world problems at levels the student can understand. For lower level students, I investigate with them the development of the linear equations involved in setting up a relationship between two factors. My teaching style is a combination of techniques I found successful during my educational studies. First, I believe the teacher has to be passionate and have a true love for what he or she is doing; this is passion, or lack thereof, is evident when interacting with a student. Second, patience is of upmost importance. In my experience, nothing inhibits learning as much as a rushed or pressured feeling when one is trying to learn. Finally, it is critical to find a way for the student to relate to the material in a way they understand.
