My comments on tutoring Drama : SAG member. I have worked on large productions, i.e. The Thin Red Line, E.R., as an actor, but my roots lie in theater before my conscience history began. My parents were both entertainers.

I have been a professional print/broadcast journalist for roughly 15 years. I am a perpetual student and am currently finishing my bachelors in communications online at the University of Tampa and have been accepted in their Master of Fine Arts program for Film Studies. An MFA is a terminal degree, so I will be qualified to teach on a collegiate level upon graduation. As reality often transcends policy, I currently take interns from a local SUNY institution and mentor young broadcasters, so as technology evolves, I will as well. My main body of work is primarily broadcast, but I regularly produce print articles for both online and print publications. From developing concepts for solid stories to completed final products, I am adept at producing both broadcast and print work.

I enjoy working with students of all ages. The great thing about tutoring is that instead of focusing on the needs of an entire class, the tutor can focus on the needs of one individual student. One thing I believe in with my teaching is to use a three prong method. Some students are visual learners, some are textual learners, and some are audio learners. I began teaching in fifth grade when my science teacher conceded that I knew more about sharks than he did, so when we got to that lesson, I took over for two days. In tenth grade, I had an internship at my high school teaching ninth grade Global Studies. When I graduated college, I began substitute teaching while I wrote my first few novels. During my 23 years of teaching I implemented Kindergarten through 6th grade New York State curriculum in a classroom setting. I attended workshops that focused on computer education, Multiage classroom and positive discipline.
I believe children learn best when they can form a connection to their school work. Writing skills can be improved by using topics that are relevant to the student's life.
