I recently obtained my Masters in Secondary English Education. I currently substitute teach at the high school level, and have taught literacy to adults with developmental disabilities. I've written for newspapers and magazines, and enjoy writing fiction and reading in my spare time. I am looking to tutor this summer two to three days per week.

I have wanted to teach since I was in second grade, and am currently working toward my license in Massachusetts. I believe that knowledge is an intimate thing, and that learning should be fun, and confidence-building. I use eliciting techniques, bringing student knowledge to the table first, and then build upon it. Knowing a student is important for preparing relevant materials for class. I believe technology is an important tool that can enhance the learning process when implemented appropriately. I have worked most of my adult life in education or journalism, and I was able to combine my two passions as a journalism professor at the college level for several years. I am currently a visiting lecturer in media studies at Bridgewater State College and a substitute teacher in local schools. I have taught social studies, business and typing in secondary schools. I'm patient and listen to the student to see what they get and don't get about the premise of the lesson. Then we get to it. Careful reinforcement of the Correct method will ensure Remembrance and Results. Also, Lessons must be approached within the context of the Big Picture. Students need to realize that there are no pointless or forgettable sections. Basically, communication is key followed by practice, reinforcement, more practice. Learning can be at pace, but laziness and whining will not be tolerated.
