I am a Special Education teacher of thirty years. I have certifications in Learning Disabilities as well as an English certification for the Middle school level. For the past ten years, I have been teaching High School English. I have taught grades 9-12 in Literature, Composition and Standards of Learning in preparation for the state exams. I have taught inclusion classes involving students with numerous learning styles and have always met and exceeded the expectations of their parents.
I am a very motivating person and tend to use humor as a method of teaching. I teach to and with the child and never down to him/her. I break large components into their simplest forms so that a child learns to take things one step at a time and not feel overwhelmed. I make the learning relevant to what the child is interested in or knows about so that he/she can be more engaged in the learning process. A Little Bit About Me...

As a recent MBA graduate, I would like to apply some of the things learned during my studies into helping others in their area of weakness. I understand that some students struggle in certain areas and I feel that I could be a great mentor. I tutored students in the past with the Big Brother Big Sister program. My area of expertise of editing and proofing essays and research papers. I'm also very proficient in Math.
I am not a teacher however, I do have 3 children ages 10, 11 and 12. They are very smart and all have been on the Principals list for the past 3 years. Every student learns differently, so what may work for one will not work for another. I am a very hands-on and nurturing instructor who loves learning from the student even as I teach them. I don't like to confine a student in their way of thinking or processing material simply because it is how I get things done; to learn effectively a student must have a sense of freedom.
