After graduating college I taught elementary K-8th grade in NYC. I taught for one year and decided to live Paris, France teaching English. I lived in Paris, France for 1.5 years then moved to Rome, Italy, again teaching English. My experiences were wonderful as I met people who really enjoyed learning English and needed it for work. After 6 months I returned to the states and taught at a Junior High School on the Lower eastside of NYC. I left teaching after 10 years to market computers. I believe that all children learn in the there own way. I believe in Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences. I think that all students have the capability to learn anything they desire as long as they are taught based on their needs.

I believe teaching is more than just showing how to solve a problem, but is helping the student to discover the “bigger picture”. For that reason, I ask a lot of questions to ensure that a student is not just learning by rote, but understands a topic within its larger context. In that way, he or she is learning not only how to solve a particular problem or answer a specific question, but also how to apply it to other problems in the future. A Little Bit About Me...

Because I enjoy and see the wonder in science and I like to show that to students. If they see a reason to want the knowledge, and see how it can expand their horizons, then they will be more open to learning. A common problem with individuals needing tutoring is that they sometimes do not think they have the "smarts" to learn the subject. My first objective is to show them they have the "stuff" to get it! Then I show them how it can be fun. This needs to be balanced with the practical need to get passing grades and complete the course work. I was a substitute teacher from my first year of college (99) to about 2005. I did all subject and all grades. I also worked at an out of school suspension program so the students still were learning and getting their work done. I also worked at the center of disability services helping and working with the disabled students in everyday school activities.
I like working in small groups and 1-on-1 is even better. I like to get to know them, become a friend/buddy with the student so they feel comfortable with me. In the past, with good and trouble students, this has worked and it seems like they don't want to let me down and that they do trust me and start trusting what I am telling them and enjoying it.
