A Little Bit About Me...

MORE THAN 15 YEARS TEACHING IN PUBLIC, PRIVATE SCHOOLS, AND ONE-ON-ONE AND SMALL GROUP TUTORING EXPERIENCE. No matter what the subject is, teaching is an art, and like every art, teaching requires a great understanding of the subject and outstanding communication skills( intrinsic and extrinsic). I like to break down whatever skill I'm teaching in the simplest form at first. This means explaining the concept of the skill in a way that the student can understand what it is we are trying to do. I also try to use a pictorial representation of the skill if that is needed. After that I'll show them how I work a concept with that particular skill in order to allow them to see firsthand what the thought process is and the steps that are needed to use that particular skill. In addition, I love teaching in an environment where the student is made to feel comfortable and that their efforts are ... read more

Marine Biology is one of my top subjects! I hold a MS and PhD in Marine Fish Ecology from the University of Michigan. My research was on habitat preferences of the Flamefish Cardinalfish- a nocturnal reef dwelling species in the Caribbean.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND: 2008-2010 Ross University School of Medicine (New Brunswick, NJ) Major: Medicine Specialty desired: Family Practice At end of 2nd successful year, loss of all financial aid forced a withdrawal from medical school. 2007 The University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, MI), Ph.D. School of Natural Resources and Environment Major: Aquatic and Resource Ecology Research focused on the interrelationship between vulnerability to predation, anti-predator avoidance behaviors by prey, and prey preferences for refuges in the cryptic flamefish cardinalfish (Apogon maculatus) in both laboratory and field studies. 1988-1992 The University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, MI), M.S. highly motivated German student-teacher

I am very motivated. I will give my best in tutoring.
I am a German student for biology and chemistry and want to become a teacher. I have done my middle examinations here in Germany which are comparable to a Bachelor Degree. I have helped several pupils to get better marks at school here in Germany - in English and Mathmatics. I have done several internships I had to do at schools in Germany. My best experience was when I did two chemistry lessons on two days at a class in its last year at a German college (German word: Gymnasium) - on the second day (after my lesson of the first day) five pupils from other courses wanted to join my lesson - in their free period! Voluntary! The other pupils most have told them something positive about me! I was very surprized and happy.

I can help you master geography and earth science!

I like to bring the material "down to earth" by using examples and making comparisons between the material being taught and what the student is familiar with in the own immediate world. When teaching geography and earth science I use many examples of places with the students home region. Southern California is great for that!
I have five years teaching geography at the community college level. I mostly taught physical geography (more like earth science), but also taught some human geography as well. I have had multiple short term experiences in the field that I believe make my teaching of geography, biology, and earth science more real and not abstract. As a teacher I always used technology and field trips whenever possible.

My comments on tutoring Marine Biology : Was captain for 3 years in high school of National Oceans Science Bowl which is an academic competition in Oceanography which encompasses Marine Biology

Tutored many students during high school and I am currently a 1st year Chemical Engineering student at University of California, Berkeley. In high school, I tutored AP Chemistry, many levels of math, and many other science courses often. I also worked with younger students in middle school on many of the general subjects.
I prefer one on one tutoring so I can adjust how I tutor to each students needs, but I have also done group tutoring before. All in all, I personally want to work in whatever environment will help the student learn most effectively.

A Little Bit About Me...

I see the necessity to reintegrate education, not as a tool to get a well-paying job, but as a tool for life. I received my B.A. in Political Science, with a focus on International Relations. The information I learned from classes such as Political Theory, Philosophy, World Religions, World History, Anthropology helped me awaken my analytical mind, comprehend and deal with situations, make conscious decisions, and start my course as an adult citizen of this world. As a Junior in high school, I realized the strong need in my neighborhood for tutors. Since then, I have been committed. My subject experience include Elementary Math, Algebra up to Pre-calculus, Beginning Reading, Grammar, and Essay Writing.
Because I see learning as our most natural love and tendency, I feel that anyone can learn ANY subject, granted they see the application of that subject in their life. I pic ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a Literacy Professional, I have a decade of experience teaching adults to read. My specialty was in showing volunteer tutors how to teach dyslexic adults and adolescents. I was instrumental in establishing both the first Workplace ESL program in Carson and in supporting dropouts in the community. When I left the program to do research, I had satellite programs running from Lomita to Inglewood.
I am a direct teacher. I look for what works and try not to use what doesn't work for too long. Especially when dealing with dyslexics, too much "teaching" has led to failure. I like nothing better than to grapple with a problem until it is resolved. This may imply that I am a more tactile learner myself, but I have seen that I am balanced on all three major learning style fronts. My students have noted that I give good, if off-beat, examples which stick in their heads. These odd- ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and mentoring students. I think students learn their best when they are given a nurturing environment that allows them to think creatively and openly. I foster this environment when I mentor and tutor kids by understandings each student’s needs. The best way to make students learn is by understanding what they need help learning (assessments). Once I understand their needs and with my patience, academic skills, and easy going nature, I try to teach them the skills they need. These skills are developed by making them think critically.
I believe that every child can achieve academic excellent if given the right tools. I have such tools to help students achieve this success. I have a strong academic background in the sciences and math. I graduated from MIT with a BS in Chemistry and Spanish Literature and Culture. I also have extensive years in mentoring stude ... read more
