A Little Bit About Me...

As an undergraduate student at Central Washington University, I was self motivated and involved in various activities. I have earned two bachelor degrees, BA in Sociology and BA in Law and Justice. In addition to these two broad areas of studies, I am a McNair Scholars recipient and conducted graduate level research. I have mentored and advised students as an employee in student affairs and as a Teacher's Assistant in the Law and Justice Department. During the last 5 years I have tutored students in Sociology, psychology, philosophy and basic grammar skills.
I enjoy teaching all age groups. I especially like working with High School students.Initially, they can be quite a challenge to work with, but once they are engaged they are fully immersed in the topic! I enjoy finding the teaching style that works best for each individual learner. Learning is a collaborative effort, and all individuals do not learn alike. I am patient with frustration, calm under pressure, and am able to create a positive learning experience especially for those who have experienced frustration or failure in the past.
I returned to college in my mid-40s to complete a Bachelor's degree, majoring in Biology, minoring in Chemistry and Pre-professional Studies. They graduated from the Independent Study High School University of Nebraska, participated in Running Start and are all college graduates. I was also a 4-H leader for over twenty years and instructed many youth. As a community organizer, I developed public education and outreach programs. I am extremely passionate about learning and would like very much to pass my enthusiasm on to others. This is why I do plan to return to graduate school to pursue a PhD in education. It is my belief that children of all levels and backgrounds have the ability to learn and should be given that chance.
