I currently work as a after school counselor at PineBush Elementary in Guilderland NY. Majoring in History, I have learned to write various papers and analized data. Because I enjoy and see the wonder in science and I like to show that to students. If they see a reason to want the knowledge, and see how it can expand their horizons, then they will be more open to learning. A common problem with individuals needing tutoring is that they sometimes do not think they have the "smarts" to learn the subject. My first objective is to show them they have the "stuff" to get it! Then I show them how it can be fun. This needs to be balanced with the practical need to get passing grades and complete the course work. A not so great student, I found that I still loved learning. I love stories in all forms. I have a degree in History from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I love politics and history, and found Library Science a natural extension of history and political science. Thus I now have a Masters degree in Library Science. As a student in a professional college I am very focused on learning and I have gained many skills and useful tips for studying. Students learn skills by using them in a realistic, subject-specific context, and in a combined way. So they might use other skills taught before such as note taking, highlighting, all in context.
