My early teaching and learning style was to do as many problems that were thrown at me in class or the text. I learned quickly that you need to understand the problem in order to solve problems that aren't set up for you. As a graduate assistant at Northern Illinois University, I taught composition, primarily using popular culture as a topic for expository writing and developing critical thinking skills and techniques. I have also served as a substitute teacher in the Rockford Public Schools in several subject areas. Most recently, I spent five+ years as the Communications Editor for a global manufacturing company, where I was responsible for all sales literature and communication in the North American market. A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching children and being able to see them learn. It is awesome to see and hear when they finally "get it" or when they understand something that I taught them. Moreover, when a student gives you an answer to a question and uses an example of something that you taught them earlier, it really shows you how quickly they can pick things up. My teaching "style" is very open--I will have an outline and while I am presenting I will sometimes ask for examples from the students to help get us through the outline together. You can't speak AT them; you have to involve the students in what you are teaching them.
