As controller and supervisor for a manufacturing company I was responsible for the accuracy of the accounting data generated by my staff. Part of being a supervisor is to be a teacher. My experience has taught me that it is equally important to teach the staff not just how to complete a task but also why the accurate completion of the task is important. I have found that if a staff member understands the objective of the task and its relevance, then the staff member is in a better position to troubleshoot problems on his or her own and thus becomes a more valuable member of the team.
