My comments on tutoring Teacher Cert Exams : MTEL - chemistry

Teaching is a vital to any academic career. My goal as a teacher is to effectively communicate the subject matter in an interesting way to the student in order to create an atmosphere conducive to learning. I would use number of methods such as in-class participation, demonstration-Supplemented Lectures, development of internet resources and research papers to clearly convey principles relevant to the chemistry classes I would teach. In addition, through the feed back from students and peers, I will continually strive to improve my teaching abilities. I started private tutoring in 1980. I also was a home tutor for the Milton Public Schools. From 1985-1991 I was an instructional aide in a special needs class. From September 1991 to the present I have been a math instructional aide for learning disabled students at Milton High School. I attend classes with them and I work with students in academic support classes.

As an early childhood teacher, I have had several opportunities to help children (school age), to do homework. I also was a tutor in high school to a boy for just Algebra, which then turned around to being all of his subjects and helping him keep on track. The hardest thing for me was that he had only lived in the U.S. for four years, and had trouble speaking English. After each session of tutoring, I would grab the Scrabble board, which encouraged him to use more words, learn new words, and have fun while doing so.
I like to get to the point of certain problems, such as reading the child/student when I see them, ask them some questions about the subjects they need help in and why they need help. I have worked with Infants-School age for over 5 years, and enjoy being there to help someone in need. I believe in giving back, because so many of us are blessed already.
