I wanted to excite others as Chemistry had excited me. I teach the material and why it is so exciting. My style adapts to that specific student’s strengths, weaknesses and interests. I always try and connect their interests to the material, so it is more than just words and starts to be interesting. Chemistry is scary to many people, because they try to memorize, it’s too intricate remember everything. I teach the student to understand why and how substances react or behave. Knowledge of basics, allows the student to solve problems as they are given instead of memorizing specific answers. Problems must be asked from every angle so the student learns to use the basics to solve any scenario. Chemistry then becomes logical.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love science and specially chemistry. I did my undergraduate with Honors in Chemistry and then went to graduate school and got my PhD in Chemistry (organic). Later on I moved into Biochemistry as a post doctoral fellow and continued as a Researcher in my professional life (non-teaching). After joining the University of Michigan, I had the privilege to mentor many undergraduate and graduate students in physical and organic chemistry, biochemistry and biophysics. My experience as a private tutor (General and Organic Chemistry) allows me to better understand individual problems facing students and challenges me to find creative ways to both generate the interest and overcome past deficiencies in learning.

I try my best to make the student figure things out on their own, by giving simple guiding questions or comments. I do not like to simply do the problems for them, as I find most people do not learn well this way. I am patient and empathetic, and I understand what it is like to approach a problem from the position of a student who is confused or unsure. I try to give them the tools to understand basic problem solving and critical thinking.
I went to school at EMU with the intention of getting a doctorate in Physics, to teach at the college level. I ended up getting a job in IT at the University, and found I enjoy this just as much. While a student, I volunteer tutored for the Society of Physics Students, and I tutor all the student employees I have when they are taking physics classes. I love teaching, and the students that I have tutored have excelled under my supervision.
