As a teacher, I try to empower my students to take responsibility for their actions and for their learning results. I try to lead them and to show them how and where to find the answers, but feel they learn best when they take the final step in the learning process and discover the answers with my guidance. The results are that they acquire not only knowledge, but the ability to process information and to solve problems. Living with a disability has posed more challenges in my education than the average person, yet I have faced these challenges and overcome them. I earned my bachelor degree in social welfare in three years and I recently obtained my graduate degree in criminology, law, & society - both from the University of California. During my undergraduate studies I obtained a tutoring certificate and studied abroad. Ever since my graduate studies I have contributed to the community by volunteering at a local rape crisis agency and I have also learned Italian, Portuguese, and I am continually perfecting my Spanish.
