Prior to that, I tutored several fellow students at Monroe Community College, and volunteered as a tutor/mentor for Rochester City School District High School students, through the Liberty Partnership Program at MCC. A Little Bit About Me...

I have a tendency to push myself, I was persuing a double major in college in Math and Musical Theater but made a last minute decision to focus on my math career. I then pushed myself to achieve a master's degree in Secondary Education in only a year. I began tutoring in college when I decided that I wanted to go into teaching. I gained experiences tutoring Statistics, all levels of Calculus and college Algebra. I was never at the top of my class but I was above average so I feel I understand both the students who come to understand topics well as well as those who need a little help.
I believe that students learn best when they can put meaning behind what they learn. I do my best to answer the question, "When am I ever going to use this?" I have found that my best teaching moments have been out of the formal classroom, when I am working in a one-on-one setting with my studen ... read more

As someone who was enthralled with literature and learning at a young age, I truly enjoy guiding young people through their learning processes. I believe that everyone has the capacity to learn whatever interests them; I also believe that there are as many ways to learn as there are people in the world. As a tutor, I aspire to understand each child and his or her learning needs. Above all, I am very firm about reducing the stress levels that are often a by-product of classroom learning today. Children learn best when they are enjoying something, not when they feel put-upon to find the right answer. As a tutor, I am patient, supportive, and innovative.

A Little Bit About Me...

I feel that one of my strengths is my creativity towards learning. Not all people learn in the same manner, therefore my teaching style depends on the person I am working with. Some people learn best through rhythm and tones, other through notes and elaborate explanations, samples and examples.I am a very patient person and I do not like to give up but explore the numerous creative manners in which to unlock learning for an individual. I have a very relaxed, easy going personality myself and I am approachable and understanding. However I am honest and firm in my values and beliefs. Learning should have a level of sustainability to it and build upon experiences, cultures, and beliefs.

A Little Bit About Me...

For the past five years I have obtained a wealth of experience educating students within the public & private school environment. I currently teach fourth grade as well as the Newspaper Class. I have thrived in teaching grades four through eight at two prestigious private schools in Houston. I understand what is required to optimize a child's motivation & learning. In addition, I have other specific experiences and expertise related to teaching and education. First, while at St. Francis Episcopal Day School, I constructed and introduced a Journalism and Media Department to the school. Several high-quality student-run publications were produced, and the new department proved to be a successful venture due to the combination of my leadership and the students’ burgeoning passion for journalistic expression. Second, for the past five years, I have provided extensive tutoring to elementary ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I follow the curriculum. First I go over the material that needs to be taught and I study it as if I were a student who didn't understand. Then, I create lesson plans that are interactive, fun, and modern. I do believe in older methods that work, for example grammar worksheets and journal writing every day to encourage practice. I'm a fun teacher, and that is what I believe kids need, especially today. Our youth is growing up in a generation of television screens at gas stations, ipods, cell phones with video cameras, myspace, facebook, etc. . . . Therefore it was my goal to find passion in their lives, first. For example Anthony Hicks didn't like English, but he loved playing football. I knew this was his motivation, so I focused on what he was good at as something to motivate him to get a good grade in my class. Anthony got an A, because of his hard work and determination.
