Students learn skills by using them in a realistic, subject-specific context, and in a combined way. So they might use other skills taught before such as note taking, highlighting, all in context. The purpose of the skills are stressed, students are taught not just what to do and how, but also why. I have spent my whole adullt life tutoring, mentoring and being a role model to others by being involved as a coach for the local Pop Warner football team, as well as serving as a tutor to three middle school/high school students, in the subject of math, science and social studies. I do not believe in standardized testing. Each child has the capability of learning, but not all children have the ability to take tests, for whatever reason.
