Positive Experienced Tutor

I am the mother of 3 children, two with college degrees and one currently in college. I believe that learning is best achieved in a comfortable, nothreatening enviroment. People learn best when they understand the importance of the material being taught, something I strive to convey to my students. When tutoring a child or young adult, my goal is to conduct the session in a manner that is student-active. This strategy includes posing leading questions so that the student has the chance to discover the answers themselves and to take credit for their own learning. For example, when presented with work for a problem, I would ask why they chose a certain answer, and follow by asking what their approach was in determining their selection. In this way, I can identify any wrong assumptions or missed steps that occurred in the process of completing an assignment.
