In one form or another, I have been in a university setting for 18 years and for the last five years, I have been a columnist, writer and teacher in several capacities as a university reading and writing consultant, a public school substitute, an introduction to literature professor, a reporter and columnist, a film/music editor, a writing strategies professor, and a composition and rhetoric instructor. My comments on tutoring Poetry : I am particularly adept at teaching Shakespeare.

I am foremost a writer whose 38-year, award-winning career is rooted in journalism. However, I also have an extensive teaching background. I have taught writing labs at St. Thomas University – Miami, Florida (1987-88), Mississippi State University (1988-89) and Texas A&M University (1989-93); and I currently offer tutoring services to 10th- and 11th-grade foreign exchange students from all over the world. Everyone needs help now and again!

I find most children at young ages are visual learners, but I am easily adjustable to many teaching styles to fit the students needs.

I have a Bachelors in English Literature w/a certificate in Technical Writing from the University of North Texas. I have put myself through school by working as server part-time. This has given me a great deal of patience. I have experience as an office manager for an apartment locator, and I have tutored my friends through their English courses.
I have no set style of teaching. I try to understand how to benefit the individual by examining their needs. Then, we go from there.
