I have throughout my entire grade school career been both a tutor and a mentor. As young as in nine years old in fourth grade I was selected to tutor kindergarten children in mathematics. As I grew older, I continually tutored my peers in a multitude of subjects, math being the prominent and my best subject. In my junior year of high school, I was personally selected to mentor and tutor at risk middle school aged children at the partnered junior high. The program I was in was specifically for high school seniors who applied and made it, when one applicant dropped out, I was their first choice as a replacement because of my excellent grades, behavioral record and proven responsibility. Seeing the look and smile on the face of a student that finally grasps a concept, or realizes they have just read on their own for the first time, OH What a Feeling!!! I take each child as their own individual knowing they have their own needs in learning a subject. I teach in several different ways as to ensure the child grasps what they need. I see children today as my future for tomorrow, so helping them and making a difference in their lives will make a difference in mine. I have not forgotten any individual I have helped to this day.
After graduating in 1996, I opened my own tutoring service in Dickson, TN. I tutored individuals from public schools and home school in Math, Reading, and several other subjects needed until 2001. While obtaining my chemistry degree at Butler, I also completed all requirements for a secondary education license with the exception of student teaching and worked as a math and science tutor with a private tutoring service in Indianapolis. I also was a "Mad Science" instructor, teaching after school programs to grades k-12 in science. Upon graduation, I worked as a medicinal chemist for 5 year and attended law school at night. I completed my law degree in 2006 and now currently work at Vanderbilt University negotiating research agreements. I recently taught test prep course for Sherwood Test Prep-but disliked the format of the classes. I prefer to tutor one on one with students and look forward to getting back into tutoring math and science on a regular basis, not only for extra income, but to get back to my teaching roots.
