I am employed as a Math Tutor at a company in Asheville. Before this, I lived in Raleigh where I worked for several distinguished companies as a Math Tutor. I have taught SAT Math prep at Cary Academy during the last two summers and at Roxboro Community School where I worked primarily as a Spanish Teacher.
I like to use examples and cater my lessons to what the student needs to work on (i.e. homework, test-prep). I also differentiate my style based on whether the student learns best through audio, visual, or kinesthetic means. Effective, caring tutoring from an experienced tutor

I summarize my approach to tutoring with "3 E's": Enthusiasm, Engagement, and Encouragement. I try hard to make each session fun and to engage the student in seeking the solution, rather than just teaching him or her a method.
I have been tutoring in math since I was in Jr High. Initially my students were sisters and brothers, then nephews and nieces, and finally I began tutoring as a second career. My background includes 30 years as an engineer and engineering manager, as well as teaching math at the community college level and volunteering as an adult literacy tutor. I love applying math to real world problems, and I do my best to come up with pertinent examples to help a student learn a new concept.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a tutor for the last few years, and I officially became a level 1 and level 2 certifiet tutor through the college reading and learning associations. I have worked with students and peers in basic math, and algebra subjects as well as biology and advanced science courses. I am a recent college graduate with a degree in Biology and minors in chemistry and psychology. I graduated with honors and I am also a former student athlete. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in helping people that need help. So in college I began tutoring and started to do a bunch of community service projects. I have two years in tutoring experience. I tutor subjects such as algebra, pre-cal, biology, microbiology, world religion, psychology and the list continues. I have not had the experience in tutoring chemistry yet, I am currently taking organic chemistry and when I get finish chemistry courses that my college major requires I will begin to be a tutor for the subject. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a mother of 3 children who are all very successful students. My eldest will graduate a semester early from college this month. My middle child is a junior in college and my youngest child is a senior in high school who will be entering college next fall. I speak of my children because I have helped them whenever they have had problems with their studies. When my older two were in elementary school, I was a coach for their Odyssey of the Mind teams. As a liberal arts student, I was taught to pursue the bridge between science and understanding. My education has fostered in me an appreciation of learning, and a belief that comprehension is attainable through multiple avenues. I studied Art History at Florida State University, which required a number of essay and extensive seminar classes, which taught me different ways to complete 10-20 page papers. I have worked teaching children in many different environments, in a preschool, Boys and Girls club, and at their homes.
