I have always loved to teach and have been told by my children that I should have been a teacher. When it comes to math I have found that most people who have trouble with math have simply missed some fundamental along the way. It is extremely rewarding to figure out what that is and fill in that hole. I teach by breaking problems down and asking easier questions that lead to the answer. I am good at finding many ways to approach the same problem while I search for the way that clicks with the student. One of my children has ADD so I have learned to recognize when that focus switch turns off and have found ways to bring the focus back. I am most familiar with conversation, as a means of relating information and testing understanding. I think that a through understanding in any subject comes about when a student can recognize the important concepts, and how they relate to each other, and speak those concepts in words which they understand--while gaining the vocabulary and proficiency as each subject demands.
