My comments on tutoring Reading : Tutored ESOL student who only knew the alphabet and by the end of the school year she could read a book all by herself.

I teach by providing various examples until student comprehends the material.
ESOL first grade student: reading and writing, tutored for a year. Second grade student: homework help, tutored for a semester. Seventh grade student: study skills and homework help, tutored for a semester. Community college student: algebra and geometry, tutored for only a couple of sessions. My comments on tutoring Reading : Learn how to read faster, select appropriate reading materials, and be a confident reader.

I think people learn best when they are in a supportive and exciting environment. Education should engage students on multiple levels. I emphasis critical thinking skills and multi-faceted learning rather than asking students to spit back information that they won't retain.
