American Sign Language and English Tutor

When it comes to language, I believe that people tend to learn best by doing. I also believe wholeheartedly that successfully learning a language depends on your exposure to that language. Continuous exposure to any language can help language acquisition. For English, regardless of what specifically the student is struggling with, consistent reading and writing practice is key. With a manual language like ASL, practicing signing skills and receptive skills is invaluable. I have years of excellent experience with analyzing, writing, and assisting others in academic as well as professional settings. I have done extensive research on various topics in Political Science and my experiences have taught time that there is never an end to learning, and there is no one single perfect answer to questions about natural or man-made phenomena.
Socratic, and lecture. It really depends on subjects. For example, case analysis in a political science or philosophy course can be more constructively learned through the Socratic method - that is, an open and inclusive discussion in the form of question and answer. Other subjects, such as psychology or geology may be best taught in the form of direct lectures with the opportunity to ask questions.

During my senior year of college I was selected to be a Russian apprentice teacher through Kenyon College's Intensive Language Program. I taught students three times per week for approximately an hour each session. I had to go through training for this position, which taught me how to design lessons and utilize teaching tools to help students understand the material. As I am a recent graduate myself, I understand the needs of most students and what it takes to keep them engaged in learning. For example, I frequently used games as memorization tools for students that focused on repetition as a learning aid.
