My comments on tutoring Drama : I began acting while in high school and have multiple stage credits to my name, both in school and community productions. Most of my experience with musical theater (I have voice training as well) and comedy, but I can offer assistance with all forms of drama and acting (line memorization and delivery, stage instruction, stage presence, etc...).

I am a patient and understanding teacher. I enjoy fostering close relationships with my students so that I can cultivate my methods to best suit their learning style.
I have a degree in English and Creative Writing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and have two years experience writing for the Daily Tar Heel. I have also completed internships with the local NPR station, WUNC, and with the organization AGRADU (Advocates for Grassroots Development in Uganda). I am highly organized, responsible, and driven, and am very personable. I work well with children and young adults; I am the oldest of five children and during high school and college, I worked as a dance teacher and nanny. I'm currently working on publishing my first novel.

I also worked professionally as a dancer for Theatre West Virginia. A Little Bit About Me...

From my experiences teaching acting in Durham NC I know education can I know that learning can be fun. I hold a Bachelor's from UNC Greensboro where I majored in Psychology and theater arts, but also took many literature credits to fulfill a special educational program in which I was placed. this program was for gifted students. From my psychology classes I learned to write many research papers. I can tutor students in the arts, psychology, sciences, mathematics, and general education. I feel I can do this from my recent completion of military training for the North Carolina National Guard.
I love working with children. I've taught acting at the Durham Arts Council for three years. The duties from that position included directing students in performances which I helped them create. The plays were written around themes chosen by the camp director. So, in essence, the children and I ... read more

I earned two bachelor degrees from the University of North Carolina in December of 2007. From there, I chose to move to Massachusetts to participate in a ground breaking fellowship at MATCH Charter Public High School. I chose this alternate route to receiving teaching certification because of the classroom experience it provided me. In addition to earning certification and completing student teaching hours, I tutored for 20-30 hours a week in all subject areas in grades 9, 10, and 11. My favorite subjects to tutor are reading, writing, history, and biology.
I am a passionate teacher and tutor. I believe that there is not a minute to waste when working with youth, and I like to conduct vigorous tutorials and well-paced classes. I believe that everyone has a different learning style, and this is why tutoring is such an integral supplement to classroom teaching. I enjoy getting to kno ... read more

I have a lot of experience working with all ages of children. As a teacher, I try to maintain a respectful but friendly dialogue with the student. Especially as a tutor, I want to be able to have an open and honest dialogue with the kid about the work. I am happy always to talk about why certain work is included in the curriculum. If a child is struggling, I know that an initial response is to quit. To assert that certain work is worthless or of no meaning in their life. I would devote a lot of energy to challenging that assertion. By grounding the lessons of the day in the larger context of the world, I would lead the individual to a recognition of the intrinsic value of schoolwork.

A patient and caring tutor, I have worked with students of all ages and levels of ability. What I love most about tutoring is helping people grow and discover their maximum ability. II believe that writing is a craft that anyone can learn--anad that the craft can be found in revisison: in re-shaping draft after draft. I also believe that most people are smart. i've had high school students who read at a 3rd grade level--but they were smart when addressing subjects of interest to them. I teach by starting with the familiar--what students understand--and then buiding on it. In teachiing high school in East L.A., I would ask students to write about literature, say Wuthering Heights, starting with what themes were familiar. It turned out that Wuthering Heights became popular in East L.A., and my identified with some of the British characters. My high school students could write essay exams as well as my honors freshman at the University of California. They exceeded my expectations--which has been the norm with many of my classes. I just let them go as far as they can w ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

For the past two years, I was the high school English teacher in a small, rural Alaskan village located on the Yukon River. This teaching position was very challenging--I had to teach several subjects, such as English, social studies, geography, art, keyboarding, drama, journalism, and digital photography. Since the high school was so small, (30 students), much of my teaching was one-on-one instruction. I have strong English skills, as well as a minor in history and a diverse liberal arts undergraduate education. Currently I am working on my Masters of Education degree, through a distance education program.
I feel very passionate about education and learning. I think the key to teaching is to engage students, and make content interesting and relevant to their lives. I truly believe that the ideal teaching situation is via one-on-one instruction, because I feel students unders ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy tutoring and working with students. I feel that I am a friendly, patient, and calm tutor. I put students at ease, help them to feel comfortable, and let them know they can ask questions. I can explain things in an informal, easy-to-understand manner, which is especially helpful for students who have trouble in school. My flexible teaching style helps me adapt and customize tutoring sessions to each individual student because learning is not one size fits all. I like to find things that the student understands and/or can relate to in order to explain and explore difficult concepts and topics.
In addition to tutoring during high school, I have worked at an independent local tutoring company and at the local Huntington Learning Center since I've graduated college. As an English major, avid reader, and proficient writer, my specialty is English and SAT Verbal, but I can also tu ... read more

While working on my undergrad I was given the opportunity to be a teaching assistant for a freshman college level film theory and design class. During this opportunity I was responsible for grading the daily work of our students, as well as being a resource for the students design projects. I taught lectures based on film theory and design, as well as specific pieces of film.
I myself am a visual and auditory learner, so I am very open to all types of teaching styles. I find that people learn better when several avenues of learning are available for a subject. Also repetition is a very important device for making knowledge permanent. I like to bring a fun and light atmosphere to learning.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have had a number of tutoring positions. Over the years, I have come to truly love tutoring. I have gained a great deal of patience. I'm extremely personable and approachable. But I feel that it is important to be staunch and to require the best from my students. I feel that through memorization and constant review, any student can achieve their best. If the total tutoring experience is a good one, I'm confident the student will improve tremendously. My goal is to improve lives, and to help in any way I can.
As a recent graduate of the University of NC at Greensboro, I've always strived to achieve the best. I graduated at the top of my class -- magna cum laude -- with a B.A. in English and Broadcasting & Cinema (Film). I'm a quick learner, and having tutored for a number of years, I'm also quite good when it comes to communicating with people and working in groups. As a ... read more

As a current tutor for Kaplan, I am involved with teaching future dentists how to prepare for the Dental Admission Test (DAT). Teaching prospective dental school applicants how to master this standardized test involves teaching not only test taking strategies, but also the mastery of large volumes of information. The DAT tests knowledge in the following areas: biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, reading comprehension, and mathematics. Apart from a sound base of knowledge in the sciences, I am also skilled in writing and grammar. I have either personally, or on behalf of others, researched, written, edited, and reviewed papers from a wide variety of academic disciplines ranging from Art History papers to Chemistry Lab reports. I have always had an interest in English, writing, and Communications. I have tutored students in both English, reading, and writing. In my undergraduate program I earned a BA in English and spent time working as a writer and Sports Editor for my college newspaper, worked as an intern at a newspaper, and worked in Public Relations as Communications Manager for a nonprofit organization.
I believe that any child can learn and that we all have various learning styles. We just have to find the style that is best for optimum learning. Some of us are visual learners and some are auditory learners, and many of us learn with a combination of styles. I believe that by working with students to finding their unique and individual learning style a tutor is the most effective.
