I enjoy teaching students how to learn. Learning strategies teach students how to learn proficiently and quickly. Consider the following illustration. A student can take a football and run toward the goal line. He who runs efficiently and smartly (avoiding players whose goal is to tackle him) will cross the goal line. Prior to and during my employment with Metropolitan Community College (Between 1998 and 2007) I was a volunteer tutor with non traditional students in the Adult Basic Education/General Education Development ABE/GED program of Metro community college.
I love to see the proverbial light come on and the students eyes widen and they say "OH! I get it!" I've tutored a wide variety of students from diverse backgrounds. I try to make mathematics fun, like a puzzle to be figured out, and remove the "hard chore" stigma which is generally hard pressed into a students mind by the time I arrive. Getting the student to believe in themselves and believe mathematics isn't a daunting task it's just difficult until you learn the tricks is my goal. I've notice most students find word problems to be most challenging so I purchased a word problem book to draw examples from which seems to help.

Anybody can learn history. By detailing historical concepts in story format, I have the ability to explain eras of history in small concise stories. Once the format of breaking down history has been established, a base of learning is created, and then longer stories can be learned/recited.
I have gained my BA in History, and in the process of doing so I tutored my fellow classmates.
