A Little Bit About Me...

I am a student at Auburn University studying English Education. I am a rising senior and have over 3 years of education courses under my belt. I have a 4.0 grade point average, and studied for one semester at Oxford University in England. I love English, writing, and teaching, and I love helping students understand my favorite subjects!
My teaching style is very hands-on. I want my students to remember what they're learning because it is interesting, not just toss information out by rote. I think that it's very important to have fun while learning, so I try to make my tutoring sessions fun and engaging.

Each student is important!! Every student succeeds!!

I have more than 20 years of teaching experience students in grades 7-12. I currently teach 10th grade English and work part-time with Han Academy. I have more than ten years experience teaching Advanced Placement Language and Composition, Advanced Placement Literature and Composition, ACT/SAT Prep, history, journalism, public speaking, and dramatic events. I thrive on teaching and student success.
I utilize elements of each of the five teaching styles; however, I prefer the I Do, We Do, You Do style of learning. I firmly believe in providing clear instruction and demonstration of each concept. Then, the student and I work together to master a concept. After that, I provide the student an opportunity to practice and demonstrate his/her mastery of the material in a variety of situations. If the student still needs help, I reteach. I believe in positive reinforcement. Every stud ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style with younger children is to have a relaxed setting where no pressure in placed upon the student. I'm always sure to review my material before going into a new lecture. When a student is not understanding the material I try to use many methods for then to gain a better understanding. When I was younger it was easier for me to understand information if I can relate it to my life, so I will apply the same methods with teaching others.
As a college student I am still striving for my goal and dream of becoming a veterinarian. I have always been a mentor in my community and willing to help others where they need help. My favorite subjects throughout grade school include math and science, in which I have excelled in both by being placed in honor level classes throughout high school. I have tutored many students in math, science and elementary level reading.

I start by asking the students to tell me exactly what is it that they not understand and start from there. I then like to work backwards from that point to find where they got lost. I also use everyday concepts to give similiar scenarios to get them on the right track. I find pleasure in seeing their faces light up once they come to understand the subject matter.
I enjoy teaching and working in the clinical practice performing laboratory tests and analyzing the results. I am enthralled with structures and functions of organisms and continuously intrigued with revelations of newly discovered mechanisms. I find gratification in getting a student to understand a concept being taught and in their expression of the lesson learned. My teaching experiences were acquired while obtaining my Bachelors of Science degree in Biological Sciences with a minor in Chemistry and during graduate lev ... read more

I did not realize I wanted to become a teacher until after I took a long-term substitute job while looking for employment. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and decided to further my education so that I could continue to teach. My undergraduate degree is in Mass Communications and Public Relations, which has helped me relate to all different students effectively and in different ways. My graduate degree is an Alternative Master's Degree in Secondary Language Arts. I have taught English in grades 7-12 for the past 14 years, and also taught Journalism and English as a Second Language while tutoring at night and in the summers.
In my experience teaching a wide range of ages and children from very different backgrounds, I have seen how all students can thrive in an academic setting with the right instructional strategy. All students learn differently; some need their assignment ... read more

My approach to teaching can be best described as adaptive. My varied experience has enabled me to develop different methods for different situations. There is no "typical student," and it is my belief that a good tutor or teacher adapts his or her methods to an individual's learning style—not the other way around. However, there are some constants in the teacher-student relationship. A student can achieve anything, grasp any concept, with the right approach and attitude, and as a general rule I make every attempt to be both enthusiastic and patient during the learning process, to find that approach that works best for individual students.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a champion for youth. While obtaining my education, my passion for children inspired me to tutor and mentor youth and young adults in programs like Educational Talent Search, Upward Bound, and Student Support Services. Furthermore, my interest in youth and education led me to begin teaching on the high school and collegiate levels. For several years, I have tutored and/or taught students in English, writing, public speaking and presentation skills, psychology, and ACT/SAT preparation.
My goals as a teacher revolve around sharpening the critical thinking and analytical skills of students, challenging them to reach their full potential, while simultaneously encouraging them and providing a safe, caring environment that is conducive to learning. I believe that school should not be to teach students to regurgitate information, but to learn to think and problem solve in various s ... read more

After completing my MS in Mathematics from CSU East Bay, I began tutoring high school students privately. Then, I taught Finite Math, Elementary Algebra, and Intermediate Algebra courses at Faulkner University and at Auburn University Montgomery as an adjunct instructor. This past year I taught high school math, science and Spanish at a Success Unlimited Academy (private). I also tutored K-12 students in math and science. I have successfully worked with autistic as well as children with ADD.
I enjoy teaching one-on-one and have found this to be the most effective in regards to my students success. I believe that every student can do well in math but every student has a different pace. I try to adapt to each student's pace/learning style as I explain a new concept.
